Job Search Optimization

Set job alerts
Let the automatic settings choose the most suitable options for you: indicate the name of the desired position and create a notification system. When the vacancy is published, an e-mail will be sent to your mail. Do not forget to disable this option when you find a job.

Create resume template
Employers expect a resume tailored specifically for a position in their organization, but each time creating this document from scratch is very difficult. Instead, make a template into which copy all the useful information that you will ever want to include in your CV. List all the jobs (paid and unpaid), all the skills you possess (along with examples of how successfully you used them), all your career successes and achievements.

Then detail the information, indicating responsibilities for each place of work. Your area of responsibility and the number of subordinates? What were your professional achievements and how can you represent them in specific numbers? What impact did your personal successes and / or the results of your team have on the company's business? List all job promotions and list cases when you worked in excess of functional duties. You might want to include quotes from an assessment of your work as evidence that your colleagues and former leaders are talking about you.

When you are ready to apply for a vacancy, select from the resume template only the most suitable and interesting details for the potential employer that meet specific requirements (never send the entire template to potential employers!).

You can use the time saved in writing your resume to write a strong cover letter.

Set an effective tracking mode
Job search includes many different elements - from labor market research and networking to response to vacancies. If you don’t follow a specific method of tracking all these processes, you will redouble your efforts and waste time. Use a calendar or an Excel document in which you note how many people you contacted when it happened (and when you promised to answer them), as well as the dates of job postings.

Set goals to keep track of progress. Ideally, you should get the best mix of network and personal activity.

Collaborate with recruiters
Who else, besides the representatives of the employer, has such a deep knowledge of all the subtleties of hiring and the process of responding to vacancies? An experienced recruiter who has a developed relationship with a client can share insider information and useful advice, as well as offer other organizations where your skills will be in demand.

But remember: only you can decide which employer best suits your career goals and future plans. It depends only on you how to best present the history of your professional achievements and what exactly needs to be noted in a conversation with an interviewer. In addition, the success of the interview comes down to thorough preparation for it and mutual understanding with the employer on key issues.

What to write in the Key Skills field

Writing on a free topic is often much more difficult than writing on a given one: the empty field “Key Skills” scares off many applicants, confusing them, and they prefer to leave it blank, not knowing what to write. But the employer pays close attention to this information. Key skills is an important section of the resume where you can indicate your professional skills and expertise that reinforce your claims for certain vacancies, as well as distinguishing you from other candidates for positions. It is important to write here primarily about what is relevant to the desired position: professional experience, knowledge of special programs and technologies. For the position of chief accountant it can be: more than 10 years as a chief accountant in foreign companies; successful experience in managing accounting (up to 10 people); knowledge: taxes, GAAP reporting, ACCA Dip IFR certificate, certificate of auditor; software skills: 1C, BEST, SUN, CMS, “Consultant”, “Guarantor”,...

How to reflect achievements in the resume

Holders of vivid resumes are much more likely to receive interview invitations. However, in order to compile such a summary, due attention must be paid to all its parts, including the section that describes achievements. Success and Responsibilities Each person can boast of certain successes: personal, social and professional. Recruiters are interested in the latter (although the first two categories can be mentioned, if you think that potential employers will appreciate it). Professional achievements include everything that goes beyond daily business responsibilities. For example, preparing a report is your responsibility, and implementing a new effective quarterly reporting form is an achievement, especially if you explain what its effectiveness was specifically about. The numbers are clearer Remember: the more accurately you describe your professional successes, the more reasons the recruiter will have to invite you for an interview. Imagine a stream of several dozen resumes,...
